What is happening in my Title I room?
The students and I meet daily for 30 minutes of focused and systematic small group reading instruction. We focus on letter writing, letter naming/recognition, sounds, reading, and writing.
FIRST and SECOND GRADE
The students and I meet daily for 30 minutes of focused and systematic small group reading instruction. We focus on phonics, phonemic awareness, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.
Students read in groups according to their Fountas and Pinnell TRC reading level. We read a mix of fiction and non-fiction books, as well as Reader's Theater and poetry.
Often we read the same book several times.
Day 1: We use reading strategies to decode words, and become familiar with the text through discussion.
Day 2: We might buddy read to practice and hear someone else read part of the text.
Day 3: Now we are ready to read with fluency, which means the right pace, volume, and expression.
Currently, Mrs. Parker, the second Title I Teacher at RP, services all third grade students.
FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADES
The students and I meet two times every week for a total of 70 minutes for focused small group instruction.
