Direct Services within the General Education Classroom
A service that is provided to students (specified through their Individual Education Plan - IEP) is direct services within the general education classroom. This is where the resource teacher or instructional assistant goes into the general education classroom to assist the students with the curriculum that is being presented in the class. Having two teachers in the classroom is a great benefit for students when learning the grade level material.
Direct Services within the Resource Room
Another service that is provided to students (specified through their Individual Education Plan - IEP) is direct services within the resource room. This service is provided by the resource teacher. The curriculum covered during this service time is lessons separate from the curriculum being taught in the general education class. The lessons are those that students may need more practice with or additional instruction.
